For the past 28 years, the Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) has been conducting research on hydrogen fuel cells for use in transportation, industry and residential use. According to the LANL, Hydrogen & Fuel Cell Research at Los Alamos has made significant technological advances in Polymer Electrolyte Membrane (PEM) fuel cells, Direct Methanol Fuel Cells (DMFC), and related technologies such as the electrolyzer which generates hydrogen on demand from water.
So why has hydrogen not taken off as a fuel if things are so well understood? The answer is found when you look at what exactly people have been trying to do. The current energy dispensing industry wants any new solution to fit their existing distribution model, which means refineries and gas stations. Hydrogen is a much more volatile ingredient and storing it in large quantities as in a refinery or gas station is a real problem. The other issue has been that car manufacturers have focused on compressed hydrogen solutions which are not the answer and the ones that have figured out a way to use hydrogen as a combustible element, have not overcome the supply issue, they still want filling stations.
Unlike many of the hybrid and "green" cars currently on the market, hydrogen cars offer the promise of nearly zero emission technology, where the only byproduct from the cars could be water vapor. Current fossil-fuel burning vehicles emit all sorts of pollutants such as carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, nitrous oxide, ozone and microscopic particulate matter. Hybrids and other green cars address these issues to a large extent but only hydrogen cars hold the promise of zero emission of pollutants, without giving up space or power. However, the problem is a vast one as there is a large fleet of cars that exist today which run on gasoline and can not be ignored if a real solution is to be found. Asking everyone to dump their current gasoline based cars and adopt all electric or hydrogen based cars is not feasible. This change over would take at least twenty years. So any solution that has hopes of being successful and have an impact NOW must be able to be retro-fitted into the existing fleet of cars and trucks as a conversion kit for a small fee.
Highlights of our solution:
a) Providing a viable way to fill up with hydrogen. Our solution solves this problem simply by installing a generator on board to create the necessary hydrogen on demand. The dangerous storage issue is gone. It also addresses the distribution issue for refueling needs to be done only every three months by changing a canister which can be purchased at any car part supply store or your local supermarket. The generator needs to be recharged every 3 months and in order to do this, the user just goes to a retail outlet, picks up the rechargeable module, changes the old one for the new one and done.
b) Retrofitting the existing fleet of vehicles on the road. Our solution is intended as a conversion to existing gasoline or diesel vehicles with a modest fee to have it installed.
c) The on board hydrogen generator has much higher electricity needs than a normal car electrical system can provide. Our solution has solved this problem as the generator has its independent electricity source as well as has the ability to continuously recharge its own electric systems via perpetual motion micro-turbine technology.
d) Heat dissipation is an issue that has plagued all hydrogen technologies in the past. Our solution has it well under control while generating massive amounts of combustible hydrogen fuel.
The Environmental Protection Agency estimates that fossil-fuel automobiles emit 1 ½ billion tons of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere each year and going to hydrogen-based transportation would all but eliminate this. Our conversion system is capable of providing up to 90% reduction in fuel consumption. Seen in a different way, if a car today gives 22 MPG, with the conversion installed, this same car will give 2200 MPG for an increase of 10X, and its pollution footprint would be reduced by 90% as well. This conversion system allows for a 10% gasoline and 90% hydrogen mixture to be used in combustion. Cars with this mixture have just as much power as if they were just running on gasoline but cost less to run and pollute less. This means that the 1 ½ billion tons of greenhouse gases that cars put into the air today could be reduced to 150 million tons. Obviously, this would reduce the US’s dependency on Oil down drastically, and if applied to growing nations like China and India as well as Europe and Latin America, this greenhouse issue could be reversed. Consumers would finally get a break from the never-ending rising prices at the gasoline pumps.
Note that president Bush has already allocated approximately $2 billion in hydrogen highway research. California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger is pushing to get 200 hydrogen filling stations built by 2010 stretching from Vancouver, British Columbia, all the way down to Baja, California. These efforts are well intended but utterly misguided, however once our technology is road tested and proven, we will address the political implications of this disruptive technology.
Our hydrogen-on-demand system within the automotive industry is going to rock the world. Our current hydrogen on demand system will take hold as we deploy it first on high end sports cars. Our solution does not require a refueling infrastructure to be built at all. We are ready to convert your car and have you begin to enjoy the benefits by just turning on your ignition key, on the current car you have come to love.
Our system uses a patented chemical reaction process to provide hydrogen in a controlled manner to the engine. We do not believe that hydrogen fuel cell technology is the answer at all. Our chemical reaction process is good for up to six months but our recommendation is to recharge it every three months as after three months its full effects begin to degrade continuously.
This technology has been around for a very long time, we have productized it, made it safe and scalable and will bring it to the masses. Until now, the Hydrogen technology has been relegated to tinkerers and hobbits, but we are about to change this by providing a totally turnkey solution. |
